Browsing the Online Apple Store on Your iPad is Easier Than Ever Thanks to New Update

scrollbarThe online Apple Store went down late last night, which is always exciting because it means some kind of update is imminent. When the store came back online, it wasn?t immediately clear what had been changed, but Japanese blog Macotakara tracked down the differences, which ended up being design enhancements when viewing the site on a mobile device like the iPad or the iPhone.

When you visit the online Apple Store via a touchscreen device, you will now notice a new sliding navigation bar that has been implemented for product categories. You can select one of the main categories, such as Mac, iPad, iPhone, or iPod, and then quickly browse through child categories using that permanent navigation bar which slides back and forth.

The second change alters the way that search results are displayed. Previously, when a search was conducted, the results were shown as a list. Now search results are shown in a grid format that makes item exploration and discovery easier on the iPad and the iPhone.

These are small changes to the way the online Apple Store works, but notable especially for iPad users because there is no dedicated Apple Store app like there is for the iPhone. In the absence of an app, web browsing is the only alternative, so it is nice to know that Apple hasn?t forgotten about its iPad shoppers.

The changes have also been applied to the desktop version of the Apple Store, but rather than using touch gestures for the navigation bars, clickable arrows have been implemented. You can check out the new Apple Store design on your computer or on your iPad.
